Tess Taylor, President
National Association of Record Industry Professionals
If you’ve read Malcolm Gladwell’s best-selling book “The Tipping Point” then you may recognize Tess Taylor as a “super-connector,” the concept Gladwell coined to describe that unusual species of person who knows everybody. It’s either genetic or a touch of madness (or both) that causes Tess to attract people like a black sock attracts lint in the dryer. These traits are at the core of the two organizations she founded, the Los Angeles Music Network (est. 1988) and the National Association of Record Industry Professionals (est. 1998). A renowned music and record industry career strategist, Tess has connected countless people to jobs and opportunities through her work in the US and abroad, and facilitated in launching hundreds of projects and several companies. Apart from her duties running LAMN and NARIP, Tess has consulted leading businesses such as MySpace.com, InsideSessions (a joint venture between the Universal Music Group and Penguin Putnam, Inc.), The Walt Disney Company, BMG Entertainment (now Sony BMG), Concord Records and others. Along with workshops and seminars for her clients, she teaches "Advancing Your Career in the 21st Century," a course she developed at UCLA, at institutions worldwide. Deeply annoyed by people who think music should be free, Tess is a vigorous defender of intellectual property rights and recently debated Electronic Frontier Foundation co-founder John Perry Barlow on “free music” at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth (2006). From 1988 to 1993 Tess was employed at MCA Records, Inc., last serving as Associate Director of Marketing. Above all, Tess encourages people to do what they love, and to stay hungry and foolish. The best careers and most meaningful lives result. To get a personal consultation from Tess Taylor please click the "Check out" button below.
